IS THERE A GOD? 5-25-08AM  by Pastor Earl Thomas
Psa 14:1 “The fool hath said in his heart, [There is] no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, [there is] none that doeth good. 2 The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, [and] seek God. 3 They are all gone aside, they are [all] together become filthy: [there is] none that doeth good, no, not one. 4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people [as] they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD.”

Intro.: this question, Do you believe there is a God, is often asked of people. It is a question which causes many a heated arguments. Some call for us believers to prove that God exists and we call for them to prove that He doesn’t. There are many approaches to answering this question. Here are a few.

I. GOD IS PROVABLE BY OBSERVING NATURE.
The very commonness of natural things causes some people to regard them as things resulting from a course of chance, rather than things originating from God creating them. But in getting below a surface level of understanding, we begin to sense the mysteries of all natural things as well as the complexity of them which confirms to us that they are of more than mere chance of being.
Our mental consulting of and weighing of the facts of nature makes the existence of a supreme being so compelling that we cannot help but believe natural things to be the outflow and effect of some divine cause. To take the opposite opinion is to succumb to pressures of human logic and unbelief in which a person argues themself into a state of atheism. Even children are God conscious. They do not become atheists until educated into it by someone whose heart is darkened by skepticism and disbelief that there could be a person of greater superiority than themselves.
Our natural born instincts of God being a reality are stronger than human intellectualism of pretended higher logic. In the thinking of the “intellectuals” there is no need for a god because in their proud thinking everything can be explained by an organic progressive evolution.
Paul tells us where human refusal to accept the existence of a higher intelligence leads them:
